Will My Mommy Makeover Scars Be Visible?
Many women who desire surgery to improve the aesthetics of their body, are also concerned about scars. This is something that should be discussed at length with the surgeon. There are incision methods and locations that will make scars nearly invisible or completely hidden.
On the breasts, incisions are often made under the breast in the crease area, this is ideal for hiding scars. If a “lollipop” incision is utilized, it is made by cutting under the breast and then around the areola. The incision is hidden under the breast and on the edge of the areola. For Tummy Tucks, if there is not a lot of loose skin to remove, a mini-tuck can be done with a small incision under the belly button. If a full incision is done, it can be placed lower on the belly, under the panty line. Be sure to discuss the location of your incisions with your surgeon.
There are a few things that can reduce the scarring also.
- Ask your surgeon about silicone sheets to apply to the surgical area, which help flatten scars, prevent additional tissue growth and help the scar to stay a similar color to the surrounding skin tone.
- WebMD suggests that maybe Vitamin E or other related oils applied each day, may assist in healing the wound faster and improving the texture of the scar.
- Keep the scars covered when in the sun. UV light will irritate the scar area and likely cause it to become darker or lighter than the surrounding skin.
- Follow all Post-Op instructions to the letter, discuss any that may be a problem to you with your doctor in case there are alternative options.
