Liposuction in Your Mommy Makeover
If you’re like many new mothers, even the most diligent dieters and exercisers find themselves unable to lose that stubborn baby weight. A viable solution is liposuction. Liposuction is a commonly used, low risk procedure that helps to sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from the abdomen, waist, hips, thighs, knees, cheeks, upper arms and neck. Beyond the safe nature of the procedure, liposuction is a popular as part of a mommy makeover because it permanently removes fat cells while slimming the body.
Though the liposuction procedure is generally considered low risk, not everyone is an ideal candidate. The best candidates for “lipo” are new mothers who want to get back their youthful, vibrant pre-baby bodies. Candidates should be physically and mentally healthy, no longer be nursing, and be exercising regularly and following a healthy diet that is not making an impact on those stubborn fat areas. It must be noted that liposuction is not a treatment for obesity, nor is it a substitute for a healthy lifestyle.
When undergoing the procedure, Dr. Fiorillo will inject you with a solution composed of saline, lidocaine—a local anaesthetic—, and a small amount of adrenaline to decrease bruising and bleeding. There are two approved methods of liposuction: suction-assisted lipectomy (SAL), or ultrasonic-assisted lipectomy (UAL). In both methods, a small, unnoticeable incision is made in the target area and the fat is either broken up and suctioned out (SAL) or liquefied with sonic energy and suctioned out (UAL).
Recovery time is relatively short, with many patients returning to work within a few days. Results are apparent immediately and even more so in the following months as swelling is reduced.
