What Goes on During a Tummy Tuck Surgery?
A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is the most popular part of a mommy makeover. New mothers quickly realize it can be near impossible to get pre-baby bodies back. Going through a pregnancy is a life-changing event in every way imaginable. That’s why so many women are flocking to mommy makeovers; they will help you feel and look like your pre-baby self again!
So, what actually goes on during a tummy tuck surgery? No worries, it’s all explained here. For a full tummy tuck, you will be completely sedated. Dr. Fiorillo will make an incision from hip to hip above your pubic area. With the skin loose and detached, Dr. Fiorillo will tighten the muscles via stitches. Sometimes liposuction is needed to get rid of extra fat around the abdomen. A dressing garment is then applied and extra fluid is drained.
There is also an option to get a partial tummy tuck. A partial tummy tuck is performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. Dr. Fiorillo will then make a small incision above the pubic area, not hip to hip like in a full tummy tuck. The muscles are tightened and fat is removed. Dr. Fiorillo will then close the incision with sutures and fluid may be drained. A partial tummy tuck takes only about an hour or two, much shorter and less invasive than a full tummy tuck.
Recovery time differs depending on different factors. Full tummy tucks can take anywhere from a few weeks to 6 months to recover. Partial tummy tucks may only take a week or two.
