Breast Augmentation / Breast Enhancement in New York & New Jersey Area
While many women choose to simply restore the shape and volume of their breasts to that of pre-maternity, it is also common for you to want to increase your breast size as well. Whether as a personal preference, or to compensate for reduced mass after pregnancy, a Mommy Makeover is the perfect opportunity if you have ever considered breast implants.
After your breast enhancement surgery, you’ll leave with fuller, larger breasts that give you the voluptuous figure you’ve always wanted.
What are the benefits of a breast augmentation?
Breast augmentations (clinically referred to as “augmentation mammoplasty”) increase breast projection and fullness, as well as correct asymmetries of the breasts. A breast enhancement can:
- Enlarge breasts that are hereditarily small
- Restore breast volume that has been lost due to significant weight loss, pregnancy, or as a result of breast-feeding
- Aid improvement of symmetry of breasts that are relatively disproportionate in size and shape
Am I an ideal candidate for breast enhancement?
The best candidates for breast enhancement are:
- Women who want to increase their breast size, or correct asymmetries as mentioned above
- Healthy physically and psychologically
- Not currently pregnant or nursing, have realistic expectations of their results, and are aware of the risks and complications associated with breast augmentation
How is the surgery performed?
A breast augmentation is an inpatient procedure requiring general anesthesia, and typically lasts one to two hours. Dr. Fiorillo makes inconspicuous incisions on your breasts to minimize the visibility of scars. Cuts may be made in the armpit (transaxillary), in the underside crease of the breasts (inframammary), or around the areola (periareolar). Your breasts are then lifted, creating a pocket into which the implant is inserted.
Sometimes saline breast implants are placed endoscopically through an incision in your navel. This is a minimally invasive technique called a transumbilical breast augmentation or TUBA approach. However, breast implants cannot be placed beneath the chest wall during this type of procedure.
After the implant insertion and repositioning beneath the nipples, Dr. Fiorillo will suture the incisions, then tape and bandage them. The bandages may be replaced with a surgical bra after a few days.
What is the recovery from breast augmentation like?
After surgery, you will probably feel tired and sore, but this usually passes within a few days. Many patients are able to return to work within a week.
Seven to ten days after the procedure, Dr. Fiorillo will remove the stitches. Any post-operative pain, swelling and sensitivity you have will diminish over the first few weeks. Scars from the procedure will begin to fade in a few months and will continue to fade for months or years.
What are the possible risks of breast augmentation?
Complications from breast enhancement surgery are uncommon and usually minimal. They might include swelling and pain, infection around the implant, capsular contracture, milk production (if you nursed a baby within a year before the procedure), a change in nipple sensation, and breakage or leakage of the breast implant (implant rupture) as a result of injury or the normal compression and movement of your breasts. Dr. Fiorillo will cover all of the risks and benefits of a breast enhancement before you undergo surgery.
